Volleyball set to host Simpson Quadrangular

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Storm volleyball team will host the Simpson Quadrangular this weekend inside Cowles Fieldhouse. Action will begin on Friday and run through the afternoon on Saturday.

Joining the Storm are the Principia Panthers, the Saint Benedict Bennies and the Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons. Simpson plays at 7 p.m. on Friday, and at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday. All games of the tournament will be streamed live on SimpsonAthletics.com.

Fans who purchase tickets on Saturday for the Simpson Quadrangular can attend the Storm football game without having to buy another ticket.

About the Storm: Simpson enters the invite with a 6-7 mark and 0-2 record in American Rivers Conference play … the team went 2-1 last weekend at the Central/Grinnell Invitational before dropping a league contest at home to Luther on Tuesday … the Storm are led by seniors Hannah Lester and Alyssa Mathews … Lester is first in the A-R-C in kills (169), second in points per set average (3.90), third in hitting percentage (.300) and fifth in kills per set (3.07) … Mathews has racked up 404 assists through the team's first 13 contests and has 2,757 for her career … she is currently fifth in the league in assists per set (7.33).

About the Panthers: Principia has lost its last five of six matches coming into the weekend, but snapped the five-game losing skid with a win over Eureka College on Tuesday … the Panthers sit at 4-6 and 1-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference … as a team, Principia has totaled 379 kills, but allowed 436 attempts to hit the floor so far … on offense, the Panthers are led by Nikki Matters, who has produced 120 kills this year … Devon Marunde has dished out 289 assists and has 128 digs.

About the Bennies: Saint Benedict has been on a roll as a late and has won 10 matches in a row and sits at 13-1 and 2-0 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference … the Bennies have two impressive wins on their resume by defeating No. 4 Wisconsin-Eau Claire and No. 15 Mary Hardin Baylor by the score of 3-1, but lost a close match to No. 17 Trinity … Saint Benedict has been tough near the net and has tallied 106.5 blocks, while only allowing 50.5 of its shots to be knocked down … the team boasts three players that have over 100 kills this season, Hunter Weiss (193), Madison Weiss (174) and Gabby Heying (131).

About the Falcons: Wisconsin-River Falls comes to Indianola with an 11-7 record and is 0-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference … the Falcons are currently 3-2 against A-R-C opponents and defeated the Storm, 3-0, last Saturday to close out the Central/Grinnell Invitational … five players have at least 100 kills on the team, Mallory Griffin (175), Katie Koerper (171), Karli Nelson (146), Dakotah Poitra (143) and Sarah Langlois (115) … Haley Huseth has been at the heart of those kills with 601 assists, which is eighth in the country.
