Blaser records 1,000th career kill as volleyball closes season at Augie

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Tabitha Blaser earned a spot on the all-tournament team and became the newest member of Simpson's 1,000 kill club as the Storm went 1-3 at the season-ending Augustana Pumpkin Bash over the weekend.

A junior from Forest City, Iowa, Blaser led the team with 41 kills and hit .240 for the Storm (13-20). She started the tournament with 14 kills in a four-set loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering before tallying 11 in a four-set win over Dickinson State, the last of which put her at exactly 1,000 kills.

Blaser becomes the 15th player in school history to reach the 1,000 kill milestone and is currently ranked 14th in school history with 1,025. She closed the season with a career-high 387 kills, hitting a career-best .229.

Milwaukee School of Engineering 3, Simpson 1 (25-23, 26-24, 18-25, 25-23)

Blaser had 14 kills, Katie Kieffer and Sara Hoppenworth combined for 49 assists, and Simpson out-hit MSOE .186-.171 in the loss. Kayla Aronow tied a school record for digs in a four-set match with 40 while MacKenzie McGraw (11) and Jacqueline Luth (10) reached double figures in kills.

Simpson 3, Dickinson State 1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26)

McGraw led four players in double figures with 13 kills and Simpson hit .231 as a team in the win. Blaser, Luth and Olivia Sulentic all chipped in with 11 kills and Kieffer handed out 27 assists to lead the Storm.

Edgewood 3, Simpson 1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-9, 25-13)

A strong second set wasn't enough to keep Simpson in the match against 20-win Edgewood. Elisa Wildy led the way with 11 kills, Kieffer had 25 assists and Aronow had 26 digs to lead the Storm. Edgewood tallied 15 total blocks as a team.

Augustana (Ill.) 3, Simpson 0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-18)

Blaser carried the load with 10 kills in 40 attempts against the host Vikings. Hoppenworth led the way with 23 assists and Sulentic set a school record for a three-set match with 34 digs.
