Dunlavy helps Storm split Saturday at Blazer Invitational

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Simpson volleyball team split its final day of competition at the Blazer Invitational on Saturday, closing the weekend 1-3.

Simpson lost to St. Scholastica 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 to begin the day but closed with an inspirational comeback win over Minnesota-Morris. After losing to Morris in three sets Friday, Simpson won the rematch in five sets on Saturday, 25-23, 15-25, 20-25, 25-13, 15-13.

Senior middle hitter Megan Dunlavy earned all-tournament honors, producing a majority of the offense for the Storm (2-8). She led the team with 63 kills, including a career-high 24 in the second match against Morris. Dunlavy hit .346 on the weekend with four service aces and team-high 11 blocks.

Simpson played its best match of the season against the Cougars, hitting .290 as a team with 56 kills. Dunlavy committed only four errors in the match, hitting .476. McKaylie Croghan added 12 kills and Ashley Padget handed out 50 assists and two service aces. Audrey Schuttler scooped 16 digs.

Croghan had 34 kills on the weekend while Haley Danforth added 21. Padgett finished with 129 assists and six service aces and Schuttler had a team-high 45 digs.

Simpson will look to carry its momentum into Iowa Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when the Storm travel to Dubuque for a 7:30 p.m. meeting with Loras.
