LoVan re-sets pole vault record, Storm win four event titles at Central

PELLA, Iowa — Audrey LoVan broke her own school record in the pole vault, Briana McCloskey, Sadie Timms and Alex Niemier all captured event titles and the Simpson women's track and field team placed second of four teams at the Central Open on Saturday.

A week after tying the school record she set in 2015, LoVan crushed her previous career best by clearing 10 feet. Her previous record was 9-feet, 8-inches, but she blew past her old mark, clearing the 10-foot height on her second attempt. The mark is currently sixth in the IIAC.

McCloskey added a win in the 10,000 meters, breaking the 40-minute mark for the first time in her career. She crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 39:56.12, good for fifth in the IIAC.

Niemier captured her first career event title in an outdoor meet by winning the shot put. Her outdoor personal-best heave of 38-feet, 5-inches bested the field.

Timms won the 1500 for the first time in her career, crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 5:02.65. Courtney Neuendorf came in second in the event, finishing in 5:13.65.
