Fleshner, Maher lead Storm on first day of IIAC Championship

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Bayley Fleshner and Jordan Maher qualified for the finals in the 55-meter hurdles to lead Simpson on the first day of the Iowa Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

The Storm will enter the final day of the Championships in eighth place with eight points. Wartburg leads the meet (80), followed by Luther (59) and Loras (52).

Fleshner ran the third-fastest qualifying time, crossing the finish line in a career-best time of 8.42 seconds. Her time currently is currently tied for No. 15 in Division III this season.

Maher also put forth a personal-best effort in the 55 hurdles, finishing in 8.65. She had the sixth-fastest qualifying time.

Fleshner added to Simpson's team total in the long jump, placing eighth with a leap of 16-feet, 4 1/2 inches.

The distance medley relay team of Lindsey Borgomainerio, Sammy Nelson, Jamie Elbert and Jade Osborne came in fifth (13:07.47) and the 4x200-meter relay team of April Sigmund, Sarah Ney, Fleshner and Maher took sixth (1:47.80).
