Storm fall to 18th-ranked Augustana

PELLA, Iowa — DeVaughn Scott pinned his opponent at 197 pounds, 141-pounder Zach Johnston beat a ranked foe and the Simpson wrestling team earned four wins on the night but it wasn't enough in a 27-17 loss to No. 18 Augustana on Thursday night.

Scott tallied his team-leading fifth pin of the season, putting Andrew Gonzalez to the mat in 1:21. The junior improved to 6-3 on the year with the result.

Gioffredi wrestled for the first time since Nov. 7, tallying a 17-2 tech fall over Josh Diehl at 133 pounds to remain undefeated at 3-0.

Zach Johnston (141) and RJ Brown (165) earned the other two wins for the Storm (0-4). Johnston beat Brendan Gould 6-0 and Brown beat Nick Torres by the same score.

Johnston's opponent, Gould, appeared on the most recent D3wrestle.com National Rankings as a contender (11th-18th). Johnston falls in the honorable mention category (19th-26th).
