Gaffney leads Simpson at Division III Classic

LAKE CITY, Minn. - The Simpson women's golf team placed 19th of 21 teams at the Division 3 Classic held at The Jewel Golf Club this weekend.

Gustavus Adolphus won the tournament by four strokes over second-place Wisconson-Eau Claire, finishing with a team total of 635. Iowa Conference comrades Wartburg (fifth), Luther (14th), Buena Vista (16th) and Loras (18th) also competed in the 36-hole event.

Jennifer Gaffney led the Storm, carding a 179 to finish in a tie for 56th of 112 golfers. Gaffney shot a 90 on Saturday and closed with an 89 Sunday, tying for Simpson's lowest round of the weekend.

Stacy Bergeson also fired an 89 Sunday, finishing at 187 after shooting a 98 on the first 18 holes. She tied for 78th.

Molly Hill tied for 90th with a 195 (99, 96), Jenni Stumpf tied for 97th with a 201 (100, 101) and Allison McArtor tied for 104th with a 204 (103, 101).

Simpson doesn't have to travel for its next competition, as the team travels to Pella for the Central Invitational at Bos Landen Golf Club on Sept. 23-24.
