DUBUQUE, Iowa – Noreen Morrow and Britney Boland each posted double-doubles and the Simpson women's basketball team survived some tense moments late to beat Dubuque 76-62 on Saturday, its second win in a row.
Morrow had 20 points and 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double and Boland went for 12 and 10 for her first double-double as the Storm (12-7, 5-3 Iowa Conference) held on despite a furious comeback by Dubuque.
Simpson led by 23 with under 5 minutes left in the third, but the Spartans (6-13, 1-7) pulled within 58-53 on a 3-point play by Taylor Burdette with 6:54 left in the fourth.
Mackenzie Haupt responded with a baseline drive to extend the lead and Boland provided the dagger, hitting a 3 from the right wing to make it 65-53 with 4:25 left.
Braana Steen had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Taylor Burdette had 11 points for Dubuque.
Simpson broke the game open early in the second quarter on the heels of a 15-3 run and took a 40-24 lead into the break.
