Alderson, Potratz lead Storm to season-opening upset of UW-Whitewater

CHICAGO, Ill. — Tanner Alderson's second-half goal stood as the game-winner and the Simpson men's soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 1-0 upset of No. 25 Wis.-Whitewater on Saturday in the Windy City.

The Storm (1-0) withstood a strong attack from Whitewater, coming away with the win despite being outshot 22-13. Freshman goalkeeper Jake Potratz was up to the challenge, posting a solid performance with 11 saves, eight of which came in the second half.

Alderson picked up where he left off last season, putting Simpson on the board in the 67th minute off an assist from Seth Bowman.

The Warhawks (0-1) have played in the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons.

NEWS AND NOTES
• The Storm remain undefeated in season-openers under Rick Isaacson, improving to 6-0-1.

• Alderson carried his hot streak over from 2016 by finding the back of the net for the 10th time in the last eight games. He has scored a goal in four straight contests.

• This win brings the series with Wisconsin Whitewater even at 2-2 in the Isaacson era.
