
Riordan continues tear, Storm cruise past Luther
The Simpson men's basketball team began the month of January with a win over Luther. The team closed the month the same way.
Conor Riordan scored 26 points, Simpson matched a season-high with 14 3-pointers and the Storm beat Luther 92-75 on Wednesday, winning their second game in a row.
Simpson committed just two turnovers on the night, tying four other Division III teams in the country for the fewest in a game this season.
Sam Amsbaugh added 15 points and seven rebounds and Tyler Stumbo chipped in with 13 points for Simpson (11-9, 7-5 Iowa Conference). Riordan went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc and Ben Rajewski hit three 3-pointers as Simpson went 14-for-28 from long range, matching the team's season-high set in the season-opener on Nov. 15.
Simpson never trailed and pulled away with an 8-0 run midway through the first half.
Aaron Hauser hit a 3 for a 23-19 lead. Riordan made a 3 and Amsbaugh nailed a jumper to make it 28-19 with 8:29 left. Luther pulled within four but Simpson outscored Luther 7-2 to close the half, taking a 46-36 lead at the break.
Luther couldn't get closer than five points the rest of the way.
Jared Nicolaisen scored 23 points to lead the Norse (5-14, 0-11), who went just 5-for-20 from beyond the arc.
Riordan added eight boards and went 11-for-16 from the field for the Storm. The sophomore point guard is averaging 29 points over his last two games.
