WAVERLY, Iowa – Eddie Diemer had 18 points and led a stellar effort on the boards as Wartburg beat the Simpson men's basketball team 74-62 on Wednesday night.
Diemer finished with 10 rebounds and Jake Reinhardt added 13 points for the Knights (13-8, 8-3 Iowa Conference), who outrebounded Simpson 44-30.
Elijah Knox had 15 points and five assists and Charles Swain added 14 points for the Storm (6-16, 2-9), who suffered their fourth loss in a row.
Wartburg outscored Simpson 18-6 in the final 8 minutes and 19 seconds of the first half to take a 38-25 lead into the locker room. The run started after a 3 by Drew Bentley cut Wartburg's lead to 20-19.
The lead increased to 20 in the second half before Simpson closed the gap in the final six minutes.
Simpson travels to Loras for a 4 p.m. tipoff on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Duhawks (7-15, 2-9) lost to Coe 78-72 on Wednesday.
