Vogel named IIAC Player of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson football player Brad Vogel earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 23, the league office announced late Monday.
A junior wide receiver from Donnellson, Iowa, Vogel caught five passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns in Simpson's 54-0 win at Eureka on Saturday, Sept. 22. He returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown – the second longest in school history and the first kickoff return for a touchdown since 2008 – and added a 14-yard rush.
Vogel is currently tied for the team lead with 16 receptions spanning a team-high 322 yards and six touchdowns. He leads the conference, averaging more than 107 yards per game receiving and ranks fourth in the nation with 289 all-purpose yards per game.
Along with junior quarterback Taylor Nelson and senior receiver Taylor Rogers, the Simpson passing attack leads the Iowa Conference and ranks fifth in the nation at 344 yards per game.
The player of the week honor is the second of Vogel's career.
Simpson opens the conference schedule Saturday, Sept. 29 when it hosts Wartburg (2-1) at Buxton Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
