Pirtle named IIAC Player of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson outfielder Josh Pirtle earned Iowa Conference Baseball Position Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, April 27, the league office announced Monday.
A senior from Indianola, Iowa (Indianola HS), Pirtle hit .440 and slugged .780 as the Storm went 4-2, splitting a non-conference doubleheader with AIB on Monday and taking 3 of 4 from Dubuque over the weekend. The right fielder finished the week with five doubles, a home run, nine RBIs and seven runs scored.
Against Dubuque alone, Pirtle hit .529 while collecting at least two hits in each game. He drove in the go-ahead run in the third-inning of Simpson's 6-4, game one win over the Spartans on Friday and roped two doubles in each of the first two games of the series. He went 3-for-5 with a career-high four RBIs in the series finale on Saturday, a 12-6 Simpson win.
Pirtle led off Monday's first game against AIB with a home run, the first of his career.
