Simpson grabs fourth at conference meet

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson women's cross country team placed fourth at the American Rivers Conference Championship behind strong performances from Emma Angus and Lara Kallem.

Wartburg won the title, with their top five runners coming in second through sixth place, for a total of 20 points. Loras, who boasted the individual champion, took second with 60 points. Central rounded out the podium with a third place finish totaling 80 points. Simpson checked in at fourth with 95 points.

Nebraska Wesleyan placed fifth with 149 points, while Luther earned sixth with a 160-point total. Buena Vista came in at seventh with 211 points, with Dubuque finishing in eighth with 256 points. Coe rounded out the team standings with a total of 271 points.

Angus and Kallem, who have been the only two runners to lead the Storm at an event this season, continued their fine seasons. Angus's 12th place finish in 23:28.26 and Kallem's 14th place finish in 23:33.41 earned them all-conference honors, the first time since 2009 that the Storm had multiple runners earn all-conference honors and the first time any runner was all-conference since 2017.

Ashley Rockhold was the third Storm runner to cross the finish line, clocking a time of 24:12.04 for 21st overall. Sophomore Emily Erhardt came in 27th with a time of 24:31.24, while Teghan Booth rounded out the scoring by coming in 30th with a time of 24:40.62.

"Our women were absolutely terrific today," said head coach Heath Moenck. "I could not be more pleased with how we ran. The improvement each woman made from a year ago is really special and Emma Angus and Lara Kallem to be all-conference was the icing on the cake," said Moenck.

The Storm will travel to Geneva, Ill. in two weeks time for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional.
