Storm women defeat Dubuque at Loras Triangular

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Simpson women's cross country team lost by one point to Loras on Saturday, but defeated Dubuque by 57 points at the Loras Triangular for the squad's first win of the year.

"Our women competed very well today to be rewarded with a tight race against a tough Loras team," said head coach Heath Moenck. "I'm thrilled with how we ran today and couldn't be more excited for our future. Cat Lucht continues her outstanding season and freshmen Lara Kallem and Kaya Young ran tremendous."

The Storm scored 28 points with five runners placing in the top 10, but the Duhawks held firm to win. Loras remains undefeated this season, a year after ending third at the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships.

Simpson collected two of the top-three spots, with junior Cat Lucht leading the way in second with a time of 25:02.3. Freshman Lara Kallem ended third, as Loras' Kassie Rosenbum notched first, who finished fifth at the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships.

Junior Sophie Hall ran a 25:56.4 for eighth with freshman Ashley Rockhold crossing the finish right behind in ninth. Freshman Macie Bopp tallied 13th for the second race in a row as she approached her first career top-10 mark.
