Fleshner leads Storm at IIAC Championships

DECORAH, Iowa – Bayley Fleshner took second in the 100-meter hurdles and added a fourth-place finish in the long jump to lead the Simpson women's track and field team at the 2014 Iowa Conference Outdoor Championships, which concluded Saturday.

The Storm finished eighth with 19 points. Wartburg won the team title with 281.50.

Fleshner, a junior from Rockwell, Iowa, finished second to Wartburg's Tashina McAllister in the 100 hurdles. She crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 14.54 seconds, which currently ranks No. 17 in Division III.

Fleshner added a fourth-place finish in Friday's long jump competition, hitting the sand after 16-feet, 7 1/4 inches.

Jessie Eyerly added Simpson's other top individual effort, placing eighth in the 800 meters. A freshman, Eyerly ran 2:18.93, the second-fastest time by a first-year competitor in the event.

Simpson's top relay of the weekend was the 4x800, which placed sixth on Friday. The team of Eyerly, Larissa Backhaus, Jessica Gronke and Lindsey Borgomainerio ran 9:52.18.
