Roberts scores upset in loss to top-ranked Knights

WAVERLY, Iowa - Brett Roberts scored an upset win at 184 pounds but the Simpson wrestling team couldn't keep up with No. 1 Wartburg, losing 49-6 in the Iowa Conference opener Wednesday.

Roberts remained perfect on the year, pinning No. 8 Bryan Levsen late in the first period. The match was tied 2-2 when the senior put Levsen on his back, moving to 3-0 on the year. All three of Roberts wins have come via pinfall.

"Brett's win was great because he's shown improvement in areas that have been weaker for him in the past. He won with techniques that we execute every week," head coach Nate Hansen said.

Simpson couldn't come up with a win in the other nine matches against the defending national runner up in Division III.

"The team is going forward with the mindset that each individual can reach a new level in the upcoming months," Hansen said.
