Roberts recognized by IIAC after perfect week
INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson wrestler Brett Roberts earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Athlete of the Week and Wrestler of the Week honors for the period ending Jan. 5, 2014, the conference office announced today.
A sophomore from Ottumwa, Iowa and 2012 graduate of Eddyville-Blakesburg High School, Roberts went a perfect 5-0 last week and captured the 174-pound title at the Williams (Mass.) Invitational. Roberts beat opponents from Southern Maine and Williams in dual action on Friday night before running the table at Saturday's tournament.
Simpson lost both duals but placed second of nine teams and took home two individual titles at the Williams Invitational.
Roberts picked up three pins throughout the weekend and improved to 11-8 on the year.
