Bergeson places seventh as Storm take third

STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 4, 2010) - Freshman Stacy Bergeson (Ackley, Iowa) placed seventh in her first collegiate meet, leading Simpson to a third-place finish at the Buena Vista Fall Invitational this weekend.

Bergeson sat in second after carding an opening-round 89 on Friday before completing the tournament with a 90 on Saturday for a 175 on the weekend. The freshman tallied three birdies in the tournament.

Senior Kayla Miller (Odebolt, Iowa) made the top-10, trailing Bergeson by two shots with a 181 to tie for ninth. An all-conference performer a year ago, junior Taylor Hillery (Dubuque, Iowa) tied for 13th (183).

Freshman Molly Hill (Norwalk, Iowa) tied for 17th (188), senior Chelsey Manny (Winterset, Iowa) tied for 21st (191) and junior Jenni Stumpf tied for 26th (197).

Wartburg won the tournament, led by medalist Jordan Galles. The Knights carded a 682, followed by Northwestern (720), Simpson (726), Luther (739), Coe (764) and Buena Vista (818)

The Storm will take part in the Wartburg Fall Invitational next week, held at Waverly's Centennial Oaks Golf Club on Sept. 11-12.
