Rams claim tight win over Storm

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Simpson College men's tennis team came close to their first victory in 2022, but fell short in a tight 5-4 match at Cornell on Saturday.

Junior Chase Henry and freshman Drake Downard went undefeated for the Storm (0-3) as they each won their singles matches and teamed up to defeat Edwin Holyoake and Michael Coester by a score of 8-4 in doubles play. Henry earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Coester and Downard posted a pair of 6-3 victories over Orion Mason. Aaron Price defeated Justin Mendez 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Simpson continues its road trip with two matches on Feb. 26 in Illinois. The Storm will face Principia at 9:30 a.m. and Illinois College at noon.
