BVU gets two third-set tiebreakers to beat Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson men's tennis team owned the top spots Wednesday afternoon against Buena Vista, but the Beavers picked up a pair of critical third-set tiebreakers in a 6-3 win at Dick and Nancy Buxton Tennis Courts.

The Storm (1-11, 0-7 IIAC) dominated No. 1 and No. 2 singles and added a third win at No. 1 doubles, but third-set victories by the Beavers (2-7, 1-5) at the third and sixth singles positions left first-year head coach Bill Wright's team still searching for its first conference win.

Noah Saunders (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk) and Adam Summitt (Urbandale, Iowa/Johnston) accounted for all of Simpson's scoring on the afternoon. Saunders notched his first victory of the season at No. 1 singles and Summitt cruised to his first victory of the season at the second spot. The duo teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, giving Simpson its highest point total against a conference opponent in 2010.

At No. 3 singles, Keifer Nevius snuck by Daniel Schneider (Ft. Madison, Iowa/Ft. Madison) in a three-set tiebreaker, winning 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 10-5. At the six spot, Christian Price beat Luke Riesselman, 6-1, 4-6, 12-10.

Simpson will take part in three non-conference matches this weekend when it travels to Nebraska to take on Doane and Concordia on Friday before returning home to face the Drake Club team Saturday at 11 a.m.
