Swain earns All-IIAC Second Team honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson junior guard Charles Swain earned a spot on the All-Iowa Conference Second Team for the 2013-14 season, the conference office announced Wednesday.

2013-14 All-Iowa Conference Team

An honorable mention pick a year ago, Swain (Austin, Texas/Summit Christian Academy) led Simpson and ranked seventh in the conference in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game. He shot 40.9 percent from the field and his 81.5 percent shooting from the free throw line ranked fourth in the league.

Swain reached double figures in 16 games, including a season-high 29-point effort in a loss to Grinnell on Dec. 14. His 14.2 points per game is a career-best, up from 13 a year ago.

Simpson endured a 4-21 season in 2013-14, but optimism is high for next season as the Storm return four of their top five scorers.

The 15-member All-Iowa Conference Team is voted on by the conference's eight head coaches. Central's Matt Greenfield was selected as the conference's Most Valuable Player and Buena Vista's Nick Wuebker was the Defensive Player of the Year. Central head coach Craig Douma took home Coach of the Year honors.
