Cronin, Everding, Schott named Academic All-District

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Three members of the Simpson football team earned Capital One Division III Academic All District honors, as presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Linebackers Mark Cronin and Braden Everding and defensive back Jarrod Schott all received the award and advance to the Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected and announced on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Cronin, a junior from Holstein, Iowa, carries a 3.86 cumulative grade point average in economics and accounting. The Storm's leading tackler with 95 on the season, Cronin will be a two-time academic all-conference honoree at season's end. He also leads the team in sacks (5) and forced fumbles (3) and is tied for the team lead with six pass break-ups. Cronin was named Iowa Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 16.

Everding, a senior from Tripoli, Iowa, carries a 3.76 cumulative grade point average in exercise science. A First Team Academic All-District selection in 2010, Everding recently became the Storm's all-time leading tackler when he made his 257th career tackle in a 14-0 win over Buena Vista on Nov. 5. Everding is a three-year starter, a three-time academic all-conference performer and is second on the team with 84 tackles.

Schott, a senior from Pocahontas, Iowa, carries a 3.78 cumulative grade point average in mathematics. A Third Team Academic All-District pick a year ago and three-time academic all-conference honoree, Schott is tied with Cronin for the team lead in pass break-ups with six. The cornerback has 28 tackles and his two interceptions are second on the team.

In all, 25 players were selected to the Capital One Division III Academic All-District 8 Team, 11 of which came from the Iowa Conference. Central's Jeremy Snead, and Ross Doehrmann, Dubuque's Wyatt Hanus, Michael Zweifel, Miles Hookstead and Justin Spaulding, Luther's Obi Ukabiala and Wartburg's Logan Hansen all made the team.

To be considered for inclusion on the Capital One Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
