Simpson football players take the 'Plunge'

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson football players past and present took part in Indianola's Polar Plunge at Lake Ahquabi on Saturday, March 5. The event raised $21,000 for the Special Olympics.

Two teams represented the Simpson football program: one consisting of current players, while the other – the Buxton Boys – was made up of former players and alumni.

Assistant football coach Paul Davis, who helped organize the event, said every team member was involved in some way, whether it was "setting up, tearing down, [or] raising money."

"For us, as coaches and athletes, we completely understand what it takes to compete," Davis said.  "We've seen [the Olympians] compete and seen them train, and the kind of effort they put forth demands respect."

One-hundred eighty people pre-registered for the Plunge, many of whom were Simpson students.

"The campus really came alive with it," Davis said. "We had some student leaders that jumped up, and did some great things for us."
