Nelson named IIAC Offensive Player of the Week

INDIANOLA - Simpson quarterback Taylor Nelson earned Iowa Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the period ending Oct. 3, following a career performance against Luther on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Nelson, a freshman sports administration major from West Des Moines, threw for a career-high 225 yards on 19 of 36 passing in the Storm's 30-24 homecoming loss to the Norse. His 19 completions were also a career-best, as Nelson accounted for all three Simpson touchdowns, tossing two and running for another.

With the team trailing 21-3 midway through the third quarter, Nelson led a furious comeback which brought the Storm within three halfway through the fourth quarter. His 16-yard touchdown strike to Brad Vogel in the corner of the endzone made the score 27-24, capping an 8-play, 80 drive. During the drive, Nelson went 4-for-7 and connected on a 31-yarder to Vogel on the first play.

Each of Nelson's touchdowns came in a second half which saw him go 11-for-20 through the air for 160 yards.

The Storm (1-4, 1-2 IIAC) travel to Central on Oct. 9 to face the No. 9 Dutch at 1 p.m.
