Central earns homecoming win over Storm

PELLA - Nate Snead accounted for 246 yards and three touchdowns, Central amassed over 400 yards of offense beat Simpson, 38-10 on homecoming Saturday.

Snead threw for 184 yards with a touchdown and added 62 yards on the ground with two touchdowns for the Dutch (5-1, 3-1 IIAC), who out-gained Simpson 403-131 in the afternoon.

Central opened up a 17-0 lead at halftime and extended the lead to 24-0 on a 61-yard hookup from Snead to Jordan Leuschen. Snead completed 9 of 15 passes.

Michael Chia (Indianola, Iowa) ran for a career-high 80 yards on 19 carries for the Storm (1-5, 1-3 IIAC), which got their sole source of scoring on special teams. A 33-yard field goal from James Gale (Waukee, Iowa) made the score 24-3 in the third quarter, and Matt Gregory (Bloomfield, Iowa) returned a blocked punt by Travis Strehlow (Dent, Minn.) 34 yards for the final score of the game.

Shane Wong made three sacks for a Central defense which had five on the day. Jeff Getting and Mark Cronin made eight tackles each to lead the Storm.

Simpson hits the road again next Saturday when it travels to Dubuque for an Iowa Conference contest against the Spartans. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
