Storm women’s golf recognizes senior quartet
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson women's golf team had four seniors that lost out on their final spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic as Haley Booton, Hannah Gordon, Madison Hance and Kelsey Poppe looked to close out their careers this semester.
This past fall, the senior quartet led the Storm to two invitational titles, including their own at the Indianola Country Club on Sept. 25, 2019. At the American Rivers Conference Championships, Simpson ended sixth after Gordon tallied a runner-up finish by carding a tournament low of 71 on the final day of competition. Gordon's second-place nod is the best finish at the conference meet since 2012 for the Storm.
Haley Booton
• Senior from Mount Pleasant, Iowa
• A four-year letterwinner for the Storm
• Ended with an average of 90.7 per round during her career
• Tallied a career-best 82 as a freshman and senior
• Played in 50 rounds during her career at Simpson
• Majoring in business management with a minor in human resources
Hannah Gordon
• Senior from Pleasantville, Iowa
• A three-year letterwinner for the Storm
• Two-time American Rivers All-Conference honoree by finishing second and sixth at the conference championships in back-to-back seasons
• Two-time Academic All-A-R-C selection
• 2018-19 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Golf Team selection
• Finished runner-up at the 2019 A-R-C Championships with a three-round total of 238
• Fired a 71 on the final day of the championships for the lowest round score and best score in program history at the event
• Best finish by a Simpson women's golfer at the championships since Jennifer Gafney was the medalist in 2012
• First Storm women's golfer to repeat as all-conference since 2013
• Named SAAC's Female Athlete of the Year as a senior
• Averaged 82.5 during her career at Simpson and finished with a score of 79.5 in 11 rounds as a senior
• Majoring in exercise science
• Plans to attend Des Moines University to obtain her doctorate in physical therapy after graduation
Madison Hance
• Senior from Creston, Iowa
• Three-time Academic All-A-R-C selection
• 2018-19 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Golf Team selection
• Competed in 48 rounds to have an average score of 91.4 during her career
• Carded a career-low 75 at the Sail Classic this season
• Ended her senior slate with an average of 88.5 for the lowest of her career
• Tallied three top-10 finishes during her time with the Storm, including sixth and seventh-place finishes as a senior
• Majoring in graphic design
Kelsey Poppe
• Senior from Ionia, Iowa
• Three-time Academic All-A-R-C selection
• 2018-19 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Golf Team selection
• Played in 32 rounds to average a score of 98.1 with the Storm
• Had her best round average as a senior of 94.7
• Tallied ninth place at the Simpson Invitational on Sept. 25, 2019
• Majoring in management and psychology with a minor in human resources
• Plans to attend the University of Minnesota to pursue her master's degree in human resources and industrial relations
