Storm cruise to 35-point win over Elmhurst

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Jenna Taylor and Cameron Kincaid scored 20 points apiece and the Simpson women's basketball team pulled away to beat Elmhurst 92-57 at the Loras Christmas Classic on Friday.

Cassie Chubb added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Storm (9-2), who outscored Elmhurst 55-36 in the final three quarters. Elmhurst shot just 23 percent in the second half.

Simpson turned a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter to a 17-point advantage with an 11-0 run to start the second.

Taylor started the run with a layup and Rachel Freland followed with a short jumper. Kincaid nailed a 3, then hit a pair of free throws before a Freland layup made it 38-21 with 7:37 left in the quarter.

Elmhurst pulled within nine in the second quarter but Simpson ran away from the Bluejays with a 17-0 run to start the third quarter. Kincaid scored nine points during the spurt, which ended when a pair of Madie Bacon free throws made it 72-38 with 5:35 left.

Lisa Logan scored 13 points to lead the Bluejays (5-6), the only Elmhurst player in double figures. Elmhurst saw a two-game winning streak come to a close.

GAME NOTES

The Storm are off to their best start since going 10-1 to start the 2014-15 season … Claire Johnson finished with seven assists, one shy of a career-high … Taylor went 8-for-11 from the field, raising her American Rivers Conference leading field goal percentage to 54.8 … Kincaid went 7-for-7 from the free throw line, raising her American Rivers Conference leading free throw percentage to 90.5.
