Men's swimming finishes seventh at Grinnell Invitational

GRINNELL, Iowa — Cody Carlson and Dylan Gray broke school records in a seventh-place finish at the two-day Grinnell Invitational Friday and Saturday.

The Storm finished with 297.5 points. Grinnell won the meet with 1047.5 points.

"This meet gave us a little hint of what is to come," head coach Tom Caccia said. "We're beginning to put it all together as we bring the season to a close."

Gray swam the 100 individual medley prelims in 58.53, breaking his previous record time of 59.52 set last year. Carlson finished fifth in 59.10 for the second-best time in school history. Gray was right behind him in the finals for sixth place in 59.63. James McKee finished eighth in 1:00.55, the third-best time in school history.

Carlson finished 19th in the 100 butterfly on 58.72, but also set a new school record in the prelims in 58.62.

Gray, Ethan Woodruff, McKee and Carlson finished eighth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.13, which is second-best in school history. The four also finished 15th in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:30.54, for the third-best time in school history.

Tyler Marine, Gray, Carlson and McKee teamed up for the 200 medley relay to finish 12th in 1:44.27, the third-best time in school history. The same group finished 13th in the 400 medley relay in 3:57.97.

Marine finished 13th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.19. Phoenix Russell finished third in 1-meter diving with a score of 293.95 in 11 dives.

UP NEXT
The Storm will compete in the last meet of the year, the Liberal Arts Championships. They begin Wednesday, Feb. 8 and continue through Saturday, Feb. 11.
