Christina Amburgy, swimming
Amburgy, a sophomore from Knoxville, Iowa, was named to the
All-Liberal Arts Championship Team for her efforts at the 2014
Liberal Arts Championships. At the end-of-the-year meet, Amburgy
helped set three school records and turned in the highest finish by
a Simpson swimmer at the meet since 2004 when she placed third in
the 100 freestyle. By the end of the weekend, Amburgy owned school
records in the 100 and 200 freestyle and helped the 400 freestyle
relay to another. Her record in the 100 freestyle broke a 10-year
old mark held by the program's only All-American, Dana Kuiken.
Brad Vogel, track & field
Vogel, a senior sprinter from Donnellson, Iowa, erased some
painful memories by winning the 55-meter dash at the 2014 Iowa
Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Vogel placed
second in the 60-meter dash in 2011 and 2012 and injuried his
hamstring in the finals in 2013. He posted the second-fastest
qualifying time this year and captured the elusive title in
the finals, crossing the finish line in 6.52 seconds to beat
Wartburg's Jonas Elusme. With the win, Vogel became Simpson's first
55-meter conference champion since the league began holding an
indoor championship in 2003. The Student-Athlete of the Month honor
is the second for Vogel this academic year.
