Neuendorf, Timms, McCloskey pace Storm to breakout run at Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Courtney Neuendorf, Sadie Timms and Briana McCloskey led the Simpson women's cross country team to a second-place finish of seven teams at the Loras Invitational on Friday.

The Storm scored 52 points, behind Loras' 31.

"Tonight was a big breakthrough for both of our squads," head coach Heath Moenck said. "Both ran by far their best races of the season. For our women to finish second behind a very good Loras team was terrific."

Neuendorf led the Storm for the third-straight meet, navigating the 8-kilometer course in 24:13.8 to place fifth of 96 runners. She led a group of three Storm finishers in the top 10, all of whom ran faster than 25 minutes, the first time three Simpson runners have broke 25 minutes this season.

Running competitively for the first time since the season-opener on Sept. 2, Timms finished her first 8k in 24:25.7 to place seventh. McCloskey wasn't far behind, running 24:37.6 to take eighth.

Shelby Hunemiller placed 14th (25:28.9), Jessica Gronke placed 20th (25:46.7), Morgan Moline placed 23rd (25:53.6) and Ashlee Litterer placed 26th (26:02.7) to round out Simpson's varsity finishers.
