Simpson volleyball stumbles at Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- RV Simpson College volleyball stumbled on Saturday to fall 3-0 at Loras with set scores of 25-9, 25-16, 25-19.

The Storm (1-2, 1-2 A-R-C) were looking for their second win in Dubuque this season, but could not handle the Duhawks' (3-0, 3-0 A-R-C) attack. The American Rivers Conference's top squad rattled off 42 kills for a .305 hitting clip, while Simpson amassed just 21 kills in the contest.

The Duhawks opened the first set with a 16-2 run before the Storm went on a 6-2 spurt. Loras finished the first set with seven straight points with the help of five errors from Simpson hitters.

Competition was even throughout the second set as both squads sat at 6-6 before the hosts erupted for an 11-3 run to make it 17-9. The Storm were unable to bring the set back to within five.

In the final frame, Simpson looked poised to send the match to a fourth set after jumping out to a 5-0 tilt. Loras had other ideas and used five kills to capture an 8-5 lead. The Storm would tie the set at 13-13 and even take the lead a point later, but Loras regained the lead with the help of an 8-1 run.

Blair Glendenning collected two service aces to bring the set to 22-19, but the Duhawks returned the favor with two aces of their own to sweep the match.

Marissa Salber dished out 11 assists and Megan LeMay paced the offense with six kills.
