Storm primed for A-R-C Track and Field Championships
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The 2021 American Rivers Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships begin Thursday for Simpson College. The University of Dubuque will play the host for the three-day event.
With the cancellation of the meet in 2020 due to COVID-19, the Storm men ended sixth and the women captured ninth in the last championship event in 2019. Simpson tallied seven all-conference awards at the championships two years ago.
The multi-events start Thursday, while the individual and relay competitions begin Friday afternoon in Dubuque.
Across the conference, Simpson has 16 student-athletes inside the top 10 in their respective events, while four relay teams are inside the top 10.
Spencer Moon carries two top-four results in the long distance events this spring for the Storm. He broke a 37-year-old school record in the 5,000 meters during the Kip Janvrin Open with a time of 14:26.13 for third fastest in the league. Moon's mark of 3:54.02 in the 1,500 meters is the fourth best among A-R-C runners and he's also 10th in the 10,000 meters.
In her first season running collegiately, Audrey Arnold has the third fastest mark in the 100-meter hurdles. She tallied a time of 15.03 seconds at the Wartburg Outdoor Select on April 9. The freshman is currently seventh in the heptathlon.
Jamie Glanz is sitting just outside all-conference honors in the heptathlon with the fourth-best performance in the A-R-C this season. Glanz garnered a score of 3,562 points at the Central Invitational on April 1. She is also seventh in the high jump.
Craig Garrison has two eighth-place rankings in the 100 and 200-meter events. Max Cleveland is sitting outside the top five in sixth among 110-meter hurdle competitors.
In the field events for the men, Mason Spree is eighth in the shot put and hammer throw. Carter Berkey has a leap of 6.67 meters in the long jump for 10th.
