Storm fall at home to Midland
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson College women's tennis team played its last home match of the season, dropping a 7-0 decision against Midland.
"Our whole team played some tough, long matches today," said head coach Faith Bliss. "I looked up and down all six courts and all six players were having fantastic points. Midland has a great team. They did a great job placing the bal and forcing us out of position. We fought hard but came up short."
The Warriors (8-2) got off to a strong start in the doubles, sweeping the three matches to take a 1-0 lead into the singles portion. The Storm (2-9) showed some fight in the top half of the order, particularly in the second sets, but the Warriors proved to be too tough, winning all six matches to claim the victory.
"Seniors Donni Kinghorn, Kennedi Wright, and Carina Covington all played their last home matches of their careers," said Bliss. "Donni has been battling with injuries most of this school year, but wanted to compete once more before graduation. She dug in, and through grimaces on her face, kept her opponent on their toes. Kennedi played lights out the first games of both sets and did a fantastic job closing the putaway volleys. Carina had a tough match; her opponent kept adjusting placement moving her around the court, but Carina fought hard and was tracking down the ball extremely well forcing her opponent into difficult shots. These seniors will be missed next year!"

The Storm will travel to Iowa Central to wrap up the season next Saturday, with the start time to be announced.
