Wanek collects third A-R-C Athlete of the Week award

The conference honor is her third this fall as she becomes the second Storm women's tennis player since 2001 to garner at least two weekly awards in a career and first to receive three. Before this season, Simpson only had six recipients since 2001, with only one coming after the 2006-07 slate in Kayla Reusche during the 2018-19 campaign.

As the No. 1 seed at the tournament in A-Singles play, Wanek went 3-0 to take home gold with victories over Kylie Dunning (Luther), Shelby Cook (Luther) and Devon Bourget (Luther). She won in straight sets during her first two matches to reach the championship against Dunning and Cook. The finale went three sets against Bourget, who won the opener. Wanek came back to claim the next two sets to earn the title and defeat the reigning league most valuable player.

The Urbandale, Iowa native is still atop the A-R-C standings in victories with a 13-0 overall mark and is first in doubles wins (7) with Emily King as her partner. Against conference competition, Wanek has seven triumphs to pace the league in her first season dawning the Red and Gold.

Wanek and the Storm (7-3, 5-2 A-R-C) host Loras (2-1, 2-1 A-R-C) this Thursday for a 11 a.m. contest to close out the fall slate.
