Storm hit the road for weekend matches

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson women's tennis team will spend the weekend away from the Buxton Tennis Complex to compete in three matches that span across Saturday and Sunday.

Coming off a 7-2 victory at Buena Vista on Tuesday, the Storm (3-1, 3-1 A-R-C) will make the trek to Decorah, Iowa to face off against Luther on Saturday. The Norse are currently 3-0 against league foes with wins over Dubuque, Loras and Nebraska Wesleyan.

On Sunday, Simpson takes on two nonconference opponents in Mount Vernon, Iowa: Cornell and Wisconsin Lutheran. The Rams are 1-1 and the Warriors will begin their season tomorrow.

Simpson is off to its best start since the fall of 2016 after beginning the campaign 3-1. Junior Anna Wanek remains perfect at No. 1 singles with a 4-0 mark after she was named the American Rivers Conference Female Athlete of the week on Monday. Megan Grubb, Emily King and Donni Kinghorn are 3-1 as individuals, while Kennedi Wright has a pair of triumphs and Aubrey Ocheltree has one in her first season with the program.

The tandem of King and Wanek are 3-1 after securing the No. 1 slot in doubles action. Grubb and Wright have produced two wins as a pair, and the duo of Lorin Miller and Kinghorn have one.

After the trio of matches this weekend, the Storm return home for another nonconference bout, this time against Grand View (0-2). Action begins at 4 p.m. inside the Buxton Tennis Complex.
