Storm fall to Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Cory Stratton won his third match in a row but Buena Vista earned four bonus-point wins in a 33-19 win over the Simpson wrestling team Friday night at the IIAC Dual Meet Championships.

The team's lone senior, Stratton pinned Seth Shatto in 1 minute, 53 seconds at 165 pounds for the Storm (1-14), who entered the dual with the No. 8 seed.

Cameron Mennenoh (133), Steven Gutchenritter (141), Dustin Shinkle (157) and Gable Bonner (285) all earned pins for the No. 7 seed Beavers (2-9).

Simpson got a pair of bonus-point wins of its own from Jason Clark and Jared Bevins. Clark picked up an 11-3 major decision over Tim Vore at 149 pounds while Bevins won by the same score over Jared Bronaugh at 197.

Facing the nation's No. 2 wrestler at 184 pounds in Brian Broll, Taylor Witzel put forth a solid effort before succumbing, 7-2.

Both teams left one weight open as Simpson forfeited 125 pounds and Buena Vista forfeited 174.

Next up for the Storm is the Jim Fox Open in Dubuque on Feb. 16.
