Storm place 11th at Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Simpson wrestling team had a tough day at the Cornell Matman Invitational on Saturday, placing 11th of 11 teams.

The Storm picked up two wins on the day, facing a talented field of teams featuring conference rivals Luther, Wartburg, Coe and Loras. Luther won the tournament with 134.5 points, edging Concordia-Moorhead (123). Wartburg placed third (104), Cornell took fourth (102.5) and Coe fifth (72).

Jason Clark picked up one of Simpson's two wins, pinning Dakota Gray (Luther) in 1:31 in the first consolation round at 149 pounds.

Taylor Witzel earned the other win, taking a 3-1 decision from Eddie Terres (Lakeland) at 184 pounds.

The Storm host Buena Vista on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
