Storm end day one of A-R-C Indoor Championships

DECORAH, Iowa -- After the first day of the American Rivers Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Simpson men are sixth and the women are eighth, hosted by Luther College.

Sam Adeniyi is trying to become the first Storm competitor to win the heptathlon at the indoor championships since 2016 after standing in first place after day one. Adeniyi tallied first in the long jump, high jump and shot put to end with 2,756 points. Austin Greenwalt is closing in on his teammate in second with 2,457 points.

Caleb Striegel fell short of earning all-conference honors in the shot put with a toss of 14.89 meters for fourth. Mason Spree captured seventh with a showing of 13.59 meters.

In the 55-meter prelims, Carter Fricke and Craig Garrison both earned spots in the finals with fourth and sixth-place finishes, respectively. Adeniyi and Greenwalt are in the finals in the 55-meter hurdles.

For the women, Jamie Glanz carded fifth in the pentathlon, led by a fourth-place finish in high jump. Sarah Nolting sprinted to a personal best in the 55-meters in 7.74.

Mackenzie Blomgren floated 4.75 meters for a career best in the long jump for Simpson. The distance medley relay of Cat Lucht, Katelyn Mangold, Abby Loecke and Mackenzie Laughlin ran a 13:16.32, which was 15 seconds quicker than the team's previous top mark.
