Simpson track teams win nine events at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Simpson men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first event of the season on Friday and won nine of the 12 events they performed in at the Pioneer Indoor Preview Meet, hosted by Grinnell College.

Sophomore Carter Fricke and senior Sam Adeniyi each won two events inside the Bear Athletic Fieldhouse to lead the Storm. Fricke placed first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.15 seconds, as well as the 300-meter dash with a time of 37.61. Adeniyi had the fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles (8.68) along with winning the high jump at 1.95 meters.

Sophomore Carter Berkey earned a first-place result in the men's long jump at 6.37 meters, beating his opponent by almost half a meter. Berkey also took home silver in two events, the 60 and 200-meter dashes.

Freshman Quentin Linnan gave the Storm another victory, this time coming in the 600 meters. Linnan finished the race in 1:25.18. Simpson junior Elliott Meyer and senior Austin Greenwalt both competed and earned top-three results at the event.

For the women, three out of the five Simpson runners earned a first-place result. At her first collegiate track meet, freshman Kenzie Blomgren was atop the standings in the women's 60-meter sprint with a time of 8.48 seconds.

Junior Katelyn Mangold had the fastest time in the 600 meters with a 1:51.26 and right behind her was classmate Jamie Glanz in second. In addition, Glanz tied with Grinnell's Tallulah Pellisslier Lloyd for first in the women's high jump at 1.40 meters. Sophomores Corinne Thomas and Sarah Nolting also competed for the Storm.
