Men's soccer falls to Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Simpson men's soccer team allowed two first-half goals to Wartburg and couldn't dig itself out of the hole, dropping the conference opener for both teams, 2-0 at the Wartburg Soccer Complex Saturday afternoon.

Simpson (2-3-2, 0-1 IIAC) took five shots in the match, putting two on goal. Connor Skultety (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) and Corey Miller (Sr., Sioux City, Iowa) provided the Storm's most dangerous opportunities, as each placed shots inside the frame.

Wartburg (5-2-1, 1-0 IIAC), ranked No. 7 in the North Region, got its goals from Brandon Cook and Nate Hedrington. Cook collected his fourth goal of the season at the 28:54 mark in the contest, while Hedrington chipped in with his fourth goal in the 39th minute. Geoff Miller and Jon Jarrell assisted on the plays.

Jeremy Ward (Sr., Norwalk, Iowa) earned the start in goal for Simpson, making two saves. Trent Michael scored the shutout for the Knights, grabbing two saves.

Simpson returns home for a non-conference matchup with Macalester Sunday afternoon at Buxton Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
