Zach Newcomer hired as Athletics Communication Director

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Zach Newcomer recently accepted the position of athletics communication director at Simpson College, where he will market and promote the school's athletic program. Newcomer comes to Simpson from Taylor University, where he served as an assistant sports information director in the fall of 2018.

A native of New Paris, Ind., Newcomer worked with soccer, indoor track and field and softball during his stint at Taylor. Prior to Taylor, Newcomer served as graduate assistant at Valparaiso University, where he covered men's and women's cross country, swimming and track and field. He has also spent time as a sports writer for the Times-Union Newspaper in Warsaw, Ind. and was an intern at Grace College.

Newcomer takes over for Bryan Geelan, who moved into the role of marketing communication director for the college after holding the position since 2009.

"We are thrilled to welcome Zach to Simpson," Athletic Director Bob Nutgrass said. "Throughout the search process it became apparent that Zach was the right person for the job. His wide variety of experience, vast skill set and passion for sports make him the perfect person to help tell the story of Storm Athletics."

Newcomer graduated from Manchester University in 2016, where he was an intern in the sports information department. He earned his undergraduate degree in sport management before attaining his master's in sports media from Valparaiso in 2017.

"I'm very excited for the opportunity to work with the student-athletes and coaches as a part of the Simpson College family," Newcomer said. "This position provided an opportunity I couldn't pass up, and I'm eager to begin the next phase of my career. I really enjoyed my time as a student at Division III Manchester and am very happy to start working at the same level with Storm Athletics."

Newcomer will serve as the primary contact for Simpson's 19 varsity sports while providing coverage for select club sports. He will oversee the department's website (SimpsonAthletics.com), manage the social media channels, direct the live video streaming portal and serve as statistician for home athletic events.
