September 2014

Sadie Timms, cross country
A freshman from Ames, Iowa/Gilbert HS ... led Simpson at each of three meets ... posted three, top-40 finishes, two of which came at meets with more than 250 competitors ... placed second at the season-opening Buxton Invitational in Indianola ... took 38th of 266 runners at the Augustana (S.D.) Twilight ... placed 40th of 498 runners at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational in Rock Island, Ill. ... final two meets featured runners from Division I, II, III and NAIA. Full Story
Trent Lindenman, golf
A junior from New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska HS ... won three tournament in five total competitions during the month ... posted a 72.1 average in eight rounds ... turned in three, sub-70 rounds, including a career-best 68 to win the Simpson fall Invitational ... led Simpson to team wins at Loras and Simpson Invitationals ... team's 289 round at Simpson Invitational is the lowest during head coach Jason Marvellie's tenure. Tabitha Blaser, volleyball
A junior from Forest City, Iowa/Forest City HS ... recorded 1,000 career kill during the month, becoming the 15th player in school history to reach the mark ... closed season ranked 4th in the IIAC with a career-high 387 kills ... named honorable mention all-conference at season's end ... posted 190 kills and a .222 attack percentage in 17 matches during the month. Full Story
Mitchell White, soccer
A senior from Decorah, Iowa/Decorah HS ... closed historic career as Simpson's all-time leader in goals scored (42) and points (92) ... set record for points in a career during Simpson's 7-0 win over Coe on Oct. 18 ... scored four goals and had one assists in nine games during the month (including Nov. 1) ... named second team all-conference at season's end. Full Story

Briana McCloskey, cross country
A sophomore from Sierra Vista, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic HS ... led Simpson at both meets during the month, the IIAC Championships and NCAA Central Region Championships ... placed 19th at conference and 69th at regionals ... helped Simpson to its best finish at regionals since 2010, taking 19th of 27 teams ... posted a career-best time in the 6k at regionals (23:38.4) while improving 74 places from the same meet as a freshman. Full Story
Nathan Schneider, swimming
A senior from Clive, Iowa/Waukee HS ... won five races in three competitions during the month ... went undefeated in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle races at Coe and Loras ... added a win in the 200 IM at the Boloit/Ripon dual ... placed third in the 100 and 200 backstroke at Beloit. Full Story

MacKenzie Haupt, basketball
A junior from Clarion, Iowa/Clarion-Goldfield HS ... averaged 13.7 ppg in three games during the month ... shot 50 percent from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line ... led team in scoring in 2 of 3 games ... helped Simpson to a 3-0 record during the month. Full Story
Jonathan Melton, wrestling
A freshman from Kansas City, Mo./Staley HS ... posted an 8-3 record during the month ... climbed into the national rankings at 149 pounds as an honorable mention pick ... placed sixth at Simpson's Luther L. Hill Invitational. Full Story

Brittany Hedrick, basketball
A sophomore guard from Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny HS ... led team in scoring, averaging 12.3 ppg to go along with 3.0 apg ... reached double figures in 6 of 9 games ... scored a season-high 20 points with five 3-pointers in IIAC opener at Coe on Jan. 7 ... banked in the game-tying 3 at the end of regulation in an 88-81 OT win over first-place Luther on Jan. 21. Devan Berrian, wrestling
A freshman from Brandon, Fla./Brandon HS ... went 7-2 during the month, including a 3-1 mark in Iowa Conference duals ... led team in winning percentage at month's end with a 12-3 record (.800) ... placed sixth at Cornell's Matman Invitational, going 3-0 before defaulting due to injury. February 2015

Tori Haag, swimming and softball
A junior swimmer and softball player from Waukee, Iowa/Waukee HS ... in swimming, broke the 13-year old school record in the 200 IM at the Liberal Arts Championships ... took part in her first year of competitive swimming since high school ... in softball, hit .542 with 5 HRs and 14 RBIs in 6 games ... helped Simpson to a 6-0 start at the Finlandia Dome Tournament ... went 3-for-4 with 2 HRs and 3 RBIs in the season opener. Kyle McKim
A junior from Boone, Iowa/Boone HS ... won second-straight IIAC Championship in the 100 breaststroke, placing fifth overall at the Liberal Arts Championships ... also set a school record in the event, finishing in 1:00.20 in the preliminaries ... set a school reocrd in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.84) ... fifth-place effort in the 100 was the Storm's highest individual place in a swimming event. Full Story

Abbie VanVleet, softball
A junior pitcher/designated player from Indianola, Iowa ... named IIAC Pitcher of the Week twice, on March 8 and March 15 ... also named IIAC Female Athlete of the Week on March 8 ... went 9-2 with a 2.02 ERA in 13 appearances ... also hit .200 with 6 RBIs, 3 doubles and 2 triples ... helped Simpson to a 21-5 record and a No. 10 national ranking through the end of the month.
Gage Reis, baseball
A junior first baseman/pitcher from Coon Rapids, Iowa ... led team with a .375 BA in 18 games ... tied a school record with 5 hits in a win over Minot State ... also led team in RBIs (9) and doubles (6) and tied for lead in home runs (1) and walks (10) ... went 1-1 on the mound with a 5.09 ERA.

 

April 2015

Riley Fisher, softball
A junior pitcher/designated player from Des Moines, Iowa ... was the team's top pitcher and hitter in 12 games during the month ... went 5-2 with a 1.98 ERA and 40 strikeouts in the circle ... hit a team-high .393 with 1 home run and 4 RBIs at the plate ... helped Simpson go 8-4 during the month.
Andy Hutchins, golf
A senior from Des Moines, Iowa ... placed fifth at the IIAC Championship with a 299, the best 72-hole score by a Simpson golfer since 2005 ... earned first All-IIAC honors of career ... helped Simpson to fourth place overall, the best finish by a Simpson team at the conference championship since 2007 ... earned medalist honors at the Simpson Invitational on April 1, his second career win.

 

May 2015

Bayley Fleshner, track & field
A senior hurdler from Rockwell, Iowa ... qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships for the second year in a row in the 100-meter hurdles ... placed 11th at nationals, missing out on qualifying for finals by two places ... made the cut for nationals by running a career-best 14.35 at the UW-La Crosse NCAA Qualifier ... she took second in the 100 hurdles at the IIAC Championships and added all-conference honors with a third-place effort in the long jump.
Dylan Kalinay, track & field
A freshman hurdler/sprinter from Tama, Iowa ... qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 110-meter hurdles, placing 14th ... made the cut for nationals by running a season-best 14.61 at the UW-La Crosse NCAA Qualifier ... finished as the runner-up in both the 100-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles at the IIAC Championships.
