Bio

Emma Christensen has served as the director of athletics communication at Simpson College since October 2021. In this role, she oversees communications and media coverage for all 25 varsity sports, as well as the cheer, dance, Esports, and shooting sports club teams.

Since taking over, Christensen has driven numerous initiatives that have elevated the college’s athletic brand, digital presence, and gameday experience. She played a key role in the committee that developed and launched a comprehensive department rebrand in April 2022. The following fall, Christensen oversaw a full redesign of the Simpson athletics website, creating new facility pages and streamlining outdated content to reflect modern branding.

Christensen was the sole full-time staff member during her first year and has since grown the department, onboarding its first full-time assistant in 2022-23, adding a postgraduate intern in 2024-25, and tripling the size of the work study student team. She has revamped the media day experience for student-athletes, enhanced gameday atmospheres with videoboard content, and introduced a new livestream service that provides enhanced scorebug graphics, commercial spots, multi-camera setups and instant replays.

Originally from Malvern, Iowa, Christensen is a 2017 Simpson graduate with a degree in sports administration and actuarial science. She began her career in athletics communication as a work study student at Simpson and later earned her master’s in sport administration from Upper Iowa University, where she also served as a graduate assistant in the sports communication department.
