Simpson College Dance Team Tryout Registration
The Simpson College Dance Team will be hosting tryouts for the 2024-2025 season on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21. Prospective dancers will learn choreography for their tryout routine on Saturday, April 20 with the actual tryout the following day on Sunday, April 21.
Saturday, April 20, 2024
Location: Cowles Fieldhouse
- 12:30-1:00 p.m. | Check-In
- 1:00-1:15 p.m. | Team Overview, Tryout Format and Requirements
- 1:15-1:30 p.m. | Warm Up
- 1:30-2:00 p.m. | Technical Requirements
- 2:00-3:30 p.m. | Learn Tryout Routine Choreography
- 3:30-5:00 p.m. | Open Time to Review and Prep
Sunday, April 21, 2024
Location: Cowles Fieldhouse & Simpson College Dance Studio
- 12:00 p.m. | Open Review time in Cowles Fieldhouse
- 1:00 p.m. | Tryouts Begin
Results will be posted shortly after the last tryout. Once team is posted, we will have a short introductory meeting.
Tryout Requirements:
- At tryouts you will be asked to:
- Perform a short routine consisting of Pom, Jazz and Hip Hop styles
- Demonstrate technical skills including:
- Double Pirouette
- Turns in Second
- Turning Disc
- Across the floor leaps (right, left and center)
- Toe-Touch
- Dancers will be given the opportunity to show advanced skills (i.e. headspring, kip-up, spot turns, aerial, extensions)
Important Notes:
- Dancers will be asked to wear all black clothing and appropriate dance shoes to the actual tryout on Sunday. You may wear whatever you are comfortable in for the practice on Saturday.

- Please remain in the facility after your tryout is complete. Following the posting of the team, we will have a quick team meeting.
