Dave Van Sickle was a two-sport star for Simpson in football and track and field, earning four letters in each sport. A defensive back in football, Van Sickle was a first team All-Iowa Conference selection in 1981 after bringing in a team-high six interceptions. An All-American on the track in the 800 and 4x400, Van Sickle was a five-time conference champion between the two events. Helped the 4x400 relay to a sixth-place finish in 1981 and ran to another sixth-place finish in the 800 in 1982.
