Bio
Tom Powell was an integral piece of Simpson’s success on the football field in the late 60s and early 70, paving the way to a 27-6-2 record in four seasons and an Iowa Conference title in 1969.
Powell was a two-time second team all-Iowa Conference pick as an offensive lineman and earned NAIA all-region honors. A 6-1, 210-pound guard, Powell took home the team’s Best Blocker Award in 1969 and 1970. The 1969 league championship team made the first postseason appearance in Simpson history with a trip to the Mineral Water Bowl in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Simpson never finished worse than third in the IIAC during Powell’s time on the team. He also spent one year each on the baseball and basketball teams.
Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, Powell graduated with a degree in accounting in 1971 before becoming a Certified Public Accountant.
