Bio
Chip Brundage stands as one of the most distinguished dual-sport athletes in Simpson history, leaving an indelible mark in both track and field and football. Known for his strength and versatility, Chip earned All-American honors twice in outdoor discus (1997, 98) and was a three-time Iowa Conference runner-up. In 1996, he set a Simpson record with a discus throw of 165 feet, 8 inches, a record that still stands today. His prowess extended to the shot put, where he earned All-Iowa Conference recognition in 1998.
On the gridiron, Chip was a formidable presence on the defensive line, earning second team all-region and first team all-conference honors in 1998. He was instrumental in the success of two of Simpson’s greatest football teams in 1996 and 1997, leading the Storm to a combined 22-2 record, including an undefeated 17-0 in conference action. During this period, Simpson clinched back-to-back Iowa Conference Championships and made NCAA postseason appearances, including a memorable run to the NCAA Semifinals in 1997.
After graduating in 1999 with a bachelor of arts in secondary education and math, Chip became a track and field coach. He began his career at Troy University before heading to the University of Pittsburgh and Jacksonville University. During his coaching career, Chip helped propel programs all the way to the NCAA National Championships, with numerous conference titles as well.
