Storm cruise to three-set win over Central

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Morgan Taylor and Megan LeMay had eight kills apiece, Francesca Pollina and Alyssa Mathews led a dominant serve game and the Simpson volleyball team swept Central 25-21, 25-8, 25-21 in the American Rivers Conference opener on Tuesday.

Pollina and Mathews finished with three aces apiece for the Storm (4-6, 1-0), who swept Central in a conference regular season match for the first time since 2006.

Simpson finished with 10 aces in all, including seven in a dominant second set. After a close opening set, the Storm took control early in set two with a 7-0 run that built the lead to 13-3. Pollina held serve for six straight points during the rally, getting two aces in the process.

The third set was tied 19-all before Hannah Lester's solo block in the middle gave Simpson a one-point lead. Simpson led the rest of the way, getting two kills from LeMay in the final three points to close out the win.

LeMay hit an efficient .357 and helped out on four blocks. Madison Hawtrey and Lexie Parks chipped in with seven kills apiece and Mathews finished with 30 assists in 68 attempts.
