Nash, Arnburg garner all-region recognition

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The United Soccer Coaches released its 2022 All-Region teams on Tuesday and the Simpson College women's soccer team had multiple players recognized for the first time in school history. Senior forward Cassie Nash was named First Team, while senior defender Lizzie Arnburg was selected to the Third Team.

After also earning second team honors last season, Nash joins Alicia Vegas (1998, 1999) as the only athlete to garner multiple all-region awards while at Simpson. Additionally, she's the first Storm player to land on the first team. Meanwhile, Arnburg becomes Simpson's first defender to appear on the all-region squad.

Nash, the 2022 American Rivers Conference Offensive MVP, put together one of the best offensive seasons both in school and conference history this year. At the conclusion of Simpson's season, she ranked first in the league and sixth in the nation with 24 total goals, the most in single-season team history since 2002. More impressively, 14 of her goals came against A-R-C opponents, the most by anyone in the conference since 2004. She had seven multi-goal games, scored eight game-winning goals, and added seven assists for 55 points.

A two-time first team all-conference honoree, Arnburg started all 19 matches and played 1316 minutes for the Storm. She had an assist in Simpson's 5-3 win at Luther and scored the team's lone goal in the A-R-C Championship at Loras, the only goal allowed by the Duhawks against a conference opponent this season. Defensively, she helped the team post six shutouts and finish third in the conference with 10 goals against in league play.

The United Soccer Coaches' All-American teams will be announced on Thursday.
